Heather Martin Morrissey started her photojournalism career at the Ithaca Journal in upstate New York. In 1995, she then moved on to the Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N.Y., after which she spent 5 years working at Gannett News Service in Washington, D.C. She currently freelances full-time in the Washington area as a photojournalist and wedding photographer.

In 1996, Heather was named Region 2 Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association. She has won numerous awards for her photography from the Associated Press, National Press Photographers Association, as well as Gannett.
